9th February 2009, Oxford, UK: Vicon, developer of motion capture and image understanding systems, today announced it has hired leading industry innovator, Doug Griffin, as director of product marketing.

Douglas Reinke CEO and president at Vicon said: “Doug comes to us with a broad range of motion capture experience in film and gaming as well as life sciences. He will head up our talented Vicon product management team and drive new products through market research, competitive analysis, and customer requirements.”

Griffin, previously based in California, moved to the UK in October for the role. Prior to the move, Griffin worked for some of the biggest names in the industry, including ImageMovers Digital, Electronic Arts (EA) and Industrial Light and Magic (ILM).

From January 1998 until April 2005 Griffin worked as the Motion Capture Supervisor at ILM. During his seven years, he directed motion capture shoots for Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, supervised Van Helsing, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pearl Harbor, The Mummy, and helped with Harry Potter I & II and Terminator III.

After ILM he joined EA. In two years Griffin managed a team of software engineers that developed a new suite of tools which increased artist productivity by 400%. He also trained staff on a new motion capture system – a suite of Vicon MX+ cameras.

Griffin said: “Vicon is ahead of the curve, particularly when it comes to new product development and innovation. It is an exciting time for motion capture, and Vicon’s past success makes it a great company to work for. I look forward to building on that success, and making 2009 a record breaking year!”
